Vinalag, 2025
Four-channel sound installation and map
6:00 min, looped
Presented during Hamraborg Festival, Iceland
Vinalag/Friendsong/Vriendenlied is a sonic fantasty about oral correspondence, melodic travel, and world-building through sound and voicing. This first iteration is composed for four voices and field recordings, with each voice placed in a different location of the festival site. The work is an experiment in composing a work that comes together like a whispering game with greater distances between participants. One voice throws a melody in the air, another receives it and adds something to it, and so on — like Medieval troubadours projecting lovepoetry and news from the tops of hills and towncenters, sending them to each other to be distributed and played with.
One speaker placed in a parking lot guard's hut. Textworks on windows by Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir.
Another speaker placed in Gerðarsafn art museum
Map showing festival area and placement of each speaker
Stereo mix version of soundwork with voices and field recordings moving between the left and right ears. Headphone listening recommended.
A third voice projecting inside Kópavogur city library
And last speaker inside a bike cage of a parking lot
